"Lie Girl" is an animated music video by TASJA, directed by Tasja Cathrin Rosè, about toxic friendship, toxic love, and the moment you stop letting someone else pull the strings.
Synopsis
"Lie Girl" is a story about the people who hurt you while calling it love. Rue has a best friend who knows everything about her. Genevieve is warm, funny, always there. She is also the reason Rue keeps apologising, keeps shrinking, keeps wondering why she feels wrong in rooms she used to belong in. Nothing ever looks like abuse. It looks like help, like honesty, like a friend telling you the truth about yourself.
With every small betrayal, another part of Rue turns to wood. Her hand, her arm, her chest. At a crowded table she goes quiet while everyone laughs at something she cannot hear. Through a rain-streaked window she watches Genevieve kiss the man she loves, and sees that both of them enjoy it. Love and friendship turn out to be the same trap wearing two faces.
In a flooded puppet theatre she hangs among faceless marionettes while Genevieve works the strings from above. As Rue looks down at the water, she sees Genevieve's real face in the reflection for the first time.
Finally realising the truth, she stands up, reaches for the strings and pulls until they tear. She walks out into the night as herself again, no wood left, the only person in the city whose shadow moves on its own.
